Resources and Allies
Resources and support for trans and gender non-conforming people and their friends, families and allies have been limited until recently however, over the past decade there are an increasing number of trans specific organizations, resources and supports available.
It is important to find support and allies and to build coalitions in your community wherever possible. Large urban centers provide access to established organizations and support groups. If you are in a rural area, resources may be more limited and the internet may prove to be one of your best sources of information. Keep in mind that there are often opportunities at conferences and workshops to gather information and develop alliances. If available, a local LGBTQ, Â sexual health or HIV/AIDS organization may offer support and information for trans and gender non-conforming people. If you have a university campus in your area, there may be staff who are researching this area, a human rights or equity office working on diversity or accessibility on campus, or trans people involved with the LGBTQ students/campus group.
We have made available a variety of types of resources, organizations and supports across the country; however, you will need to investigate those available in your own region. To make corrections or additions to this list, please contact the Egale Trans Committee.
